How Shapewear Sizing Works

Unlike bras, shapewear sizing is driven almost entirely by waist and hip measurements, since its job is to shape and smooth those areas rather than support the bust. Most brands use a fairly consistent S/M/L/XL scale, though compression level (light, medium, firm) also affects how a size feels a firm-compression piece in your size will feel noticeably tighter than a light-compression one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I size up or down if I'm between sizes?

Size up for all-day comfort, size down for maximum smoothing on special occasions.

Does bra size matter for shapewear with a built-in bra?

Yes for those styles, check the bra band/cup chart too, since the body and bust sections are sized separately.

What does compression level change?

Light compression is more comfortable for daily wear, while firm compression gives more smoothing but feels tighter and less breathable.
